Description
In the 10 years I have been on EBAY, I do not believe a complete or even near complete example of either of these boxes have been offered. In the 60s cereal box collecting world, these are considered holy grails that are so rare you might as well forget thinking you'll ever get them. I spoke with top cereal box collectors as well as a couple Beatles experts regarding these and as far as anyone knows, only 1 complete (and unopened) box has been seen besides this pair. In the 20 years I have collected cereal boxes, I was aware of all 3 examples and also saw 1 offered at a Dallas show in the late 80s but it was missing ALL top flaps.THAT'S IT ! No one recalled seeing any others. One thing that puzzles longtime cereal box collectors is that even PARTS of these boxes are hardly ever seen. Finding the backs only of boxes considered very rare is not uncommon but we don't even see backs except maybe every 3 years on EBAY. And even the premiums themselves are very rare. These are the boxes that were used to make the color copies that people periodically try to sell as originals. It took me 20 years to get these away from a very stubborn and often unpleasant collector who delights in the suffering of others. As far as the asking price, the largest $$ ever paid publicly for a cereal box was a Ted Williams 50s sports box in the Mastro Millenium auction that brought $6200 (item #932). I have also sold (in a private sale) a 50s Superman box for $5000.....so these numbers are not without precedence in the cereal box world. The Beatles world? This is on the LOW to MIDRANGE of great Beatles' stuff $$ wise. LOOK AT THE PHOTOS CAREFULLY !!! Both boxes dated 1969--on both boxes , some flaps appear to have litho paper stripped off but in reality that is the INNER side of the other flap stuck to the flap from when they were originally opened. WHEAT HONEYS: aside from the foxing (light brown discoloration) to certain areas, the 4 sides of this box are essentially near mint, bright and glossy. Top flaps were very neatly opened and are excellent+. The back and the "only 50 cents" small side have no foxing at all. The cereal bowl small side has foxing to the upper area (see photo). The front has foxing only in the white areas: "Free Inside", "Wheat Honeys" and the rubon picture. The bottom flaps are near excellent except the inner large one which IN THE PHOTOS clearly shows an inner clear tape repair from damage when this was opened. Also the same flap has a hole in it. RICE HONEYS: aside from the foxing (light brown discoloration) to certain areas, the 4 sides of this box are essentially excellent+, bright and glossy with a small, neat 1 inch tear to the bottom of the "only 50 cents" short side. Top flaps were very neatly opened and are near excellent with several hairline creases to outer large flap. Front has no foxing but has a few hairline creases only clearly seen by shining light glare on it. Back has foxing to lower 2-3". Small side with cereal bowl has a spot of foxing near foxing area on back side. Small side "only 50 cents" has foxing in most of the white area. Bottom flaps --outer large is near excellent, 1 inner small is VG, other inner small is near excellent, inner large flap has damage from opening and has a large clear tape repair clearly SEEN IN THE PHOTOS. ============================================================================== THANK YOU TO THE PATIENT AND REALISTIC PEOPLE WHO MAKE 98% of EBAY DEALINGS A PLEASURE. I have had to make my ordering terms VERY SPECIFIC due to the other 2% . PAYMENT:I will invoice you DIRECTLY to your email address, not through the EBAY system so adjust your email or SPAM settings accordingly please. PLEASE do not use EBAY checkout or EBAY request total as it just gives me unnecessary emails to sort through. VISA/MASTERCARD accepted on orders OVER $100 ONLY. You can email, fax or call in your credit card info using the invoice I send DIRECTLY TO YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS when you win. I accept personal checks (see terms below), money orders, cashier checks. Illinois residents add 7.25% sales tax. Winner pays shipping. FOR PERSONAL CHECK PAYMENT: I wait 10 business days from the day I DEPOSIT your personal check (which is usually the same or next day as I receive it) for personal check orders to ship---example, if I DEPOSIT your personal check payment on Monday December 3, the SOONEST I will ship your order is TUESDAY DEC. 18. If you are not willing to wait that long, please pay some other way. Even though good checks DO clear in 1-3 days from deposit, I do not receive notice from my bank about bad ones until about 10 business days later. I have no way of knowing that a good check has cleared, only that a bad one has not, hence the waiting period for ALL personal checks. SHIPPING: As a rule, unless item is fairly small, light, and cheap, minimum shipping and insurance is $8.50 in the USA. Generally, I ship all items within the USA via UPS insured only. So, PLEASE DO NOT BID unless you can provide a street address! WHY UPS?? I ship via UPS because there are several advantages compared to shipping USPO--for example, UPS insurance is usually cheaper PLUS UPS insurance claims are much easier and quicker to resolve than with the USPO. In fact, many people do not know this BUT if a USPO item is damaged (but not destroyed), the USPO demands to take possession of the item BEFORE they will pay even partial damage claims AND THE USPO STILL KEEPS THE ITEM! So with the USPO, you lose the item even if it’s only partially or slightly damaged. I WILL NOT ship your item uninsured. UPS GROUND does take a little longer sometimes than USPO Priority Mail. However, Priority Mail is NOT as dependable as they would have you believe and the USPO does not guarantee delivery in 2 to 3 days-----it’s just a goal, not a promise. I can ship UPS 2nd DAY AIR or EXPRESS if you are willing to pay the extra shipping charges. Just ask!!! FOREIGN ORDERS:I . PLEASE figure out how to pay BEFORE you win the auction--this is becoming a problem lately! Canadian and overseas orders shipped by USPO AIR or EXPRESS ONLY! Please do not bid unless you are prepared to pay for these charges. The only items I will ship via USPO surface are my PEZ books. SELLER INFO: Offered by DAVID WELCH author of COLLECTING PEZ 1995 and Pictorial Guide to Plastic Candy Dispensers 1991. You will notice that the very few negative feedbacks I have received in over 9 years are from people either NO LONGER REGISTERED, non-paying bidders, sellers who RETALIATED after I left them a negative ( for selling me a bad item or giving extremely poor service) and those rare people who seem to never be satisfied no matter what you do! HOW I HANDLE FEEDBACK----- if I am the seller, I give feedback AFTER the buyer does. Why? When the buyer leaves me positive feedback, it indicates they are satisfied with the deal. I ALWAYS give return feedback in such cases. If I am the buyer, I leave feedback first and hope you will do the same. I do not beg, pester or threaten people over feedback and would appreciate the same from you. THANK YOU TO THE PATIENT AND REALISTIC PEOPLE WHO MAKE 98% of EBAY DEALINGS A PLEASURE. ATTENTION--I will combine shipping if you win multiple auctions AND in the case of small $ orders (under $35), if the item(s) are relatively small and light, I can likely reduce shipping below the $8.50 minimum stated below--but ask BEFORE the auction ends please!
