Description
ORIGINAL HALF SHEET: FORBIDDEN PLANET 1956 Walter Pidgeon, Anne Francis, Leslie Nielsen. MGM PLEASE MAKE ALLOWANCES FOR CAMERA FLASH GLARE. PROVENANCE: This extremely rare Forbidden Planet half-sheet is from a private collection that was placed with Bonhams & Butterfields for bids in their June 16, 2008 Entertainment Memorabilia auction in Hollywood (Los Angeles). This poster does not show up for public sale very often as it is highly prized by science-fiction poster collectors. There are not many half-sheets in this nice of condition still surviving. We've priced this gem very reasonably with a $7,000.00 opening bid and NO RESERVE! One day in the not-too-distant future this very half sheet will be valued at $100,000. 00 or more. Based on what's happened in the last 40 years that we've been collectors and dealers in Fandom -- it's inevitable. Buy it for your grandkids and build them a financial legacy! Have fun bidding! CONDITION: A-/B+ wrinkles on left margin as listed by Bonhams (see pic above) SIZE: 22" x 28" -- American half-sheet inside black-lacquered frame behind plexiglas ESTIMATED VALUE: 2008 WARREN PRICE GUIDE = $9, 500.00 -- $11, 000.00 FORBIDDEN PLANET USA. 1956. Folsey, Electronic Tonalities - Bebe & Louis Barron, Special Effects - A. Arnold Gillespie, Warren Newcombe & Irving G. Reis, Animation - Joshua Meador, Makeup - William Tuttle, Production Design - Cedric Gibbons & Arthur Longeran. Production Company - MGM. Cast: Leslie Nielsen (Commander Adams), Walter Pidgeon (Dr Edward Morbius), Anne Francis (Altaira Morbius), Warren Stevens (Lieutenant ‘Doc’ Ostrow), Jack Kelly (Lieutentant Farman), Earl Holliman (Cook), Richard Anderson (Chief Quinn), Marvin Miller (Voice of Robbie) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Plot: Earth interplanetary cruiser C57D travels to the planet Altair IV to check on a research team. They are warned from orbit to leave, but instead choose to land. They meet the Earth archaeologist Dr Edward Morbius and his beautiful daughter Altaira, the only survivors of the expedition. Dr Morbius shows them the marvels of the Krell, the race that once inhabited the planet - colossal energy wells stretching to the planet’s core and a mind-boosting device that has enabled him to understand their devices and build an all-purpose robot Robbie as his servant. Altaira, who has never met another man, proves temptation too hard to resist for the crewmen who try to educate her as to what a kiss is. But then at night an invisible energy field enters the ship, destroying equipment and killing men. The crewmen realize it is a monster from the Krell’s ids - that the Krell tried to suppress their base desires but that instead the suppressed emotions used their devices to take energy form and killed them off. And now Morbius’s subconscious, angry at the attentions of the Earthmen towards his daughter, has created his own id monster to destroy them. -- http://www.moria.co.nz/sf/forbiddenplanet.htm RE: CONDITION: The vintage poster in this auction is accurately depicted above. It is one of over 500 that we will be putting up on eBay in the next few weeks. We're not experts on grading movie memorabilia so we're not usually going to attempt to go into detail with anything more than an "A" "B" "C" "D" + and/or - (please see our Grading Schedule below). If you win this poster/card and are dissatisfied with it for ANY REASON whatsoever, just return it for a full refund, That is our ironclad guarantee to you! We can't reimburse your postage, but we will refund the full price that you paid. USA SHIPPING: FREE! BE SURE TO VISIT GOLDEN AGE GALLERIES G.A.G. FOLDED ONE-SHEET GRADING SCHEDULE: A+ = VF/NM: "A+" designates a poster that is exceptionally attractive/bright/glossy with great "eye appeal" and with no outstanding discernable defects. A = VF: "A" designates a poster that is exceptionally attractive/bright/glossy with great "eye appeal" with no serious defects, other than small (invisibly mendable) split/splits on folds from improper storage or mishandling. Minor fold splits could still attain an "A" grade, provided there are no other accumulated defects, and linen-backing w/minor repair could transform it into a C-8 or better. B = FN: "B" designates a poster with defects as described in "A" above but with additional (mendable defects) such as minor margin rips and a small amount of creasing, provided there are no other accumulated defects, and linen-backing w/moderate repair could transform it into a C-7 or better. C = VG: "C" designates a poster as described in "A/B" above but with additional (mendable defects) such as small pieces missing, provided there are no other major defects, and linen-backing w/moderate repair could still transform it into a C-6 or better. D = GD: "D" designates a poster with serious problems and only linen-backing w/major repairs could transform it into a poster worth collecting. This grade and POOR grades are usually acquired only for repairing other posters. In our opinion there are very few vintage C-10 folded posters that are AA/MINT, and usually the collector who buys vintage folded posters does so with the intention of one day (as value increases) having them linen-backed to get rid of the creases and minor fold splits. With this (linen backing) in mind we have devised the above grading schedule for this auction and our other upcoming vintage 500 "folded one-sheet" auctions in order to best help you, our valued customers. Thus, our ABCD grading is PERSONALIZED only to aid you, our eBay partners, into gaining insight beyond what you can tell from the camera shot above. Yes, we KNOW this sort of personalized grading is not exactly "kosher" for you movie memorabilia experts, but, while we are comic book grading experts we certainly are not movie poster grading experts! Show a little tolerance here, pards. If we screw up and you're disappointed with your win--just let us know and return it for a full refund. The one thing we all want to avoid is the stigma of negative feedback. Other than out-and-out dishonesty -- there's never any understandable reason for leaving NEGs. Leaving out-of-the-blue NEG FB is just mean-spirited vindictiveness! If you do not agree with trying to reconcile before leaving NEG feedbacks -- please DO NOT BID ON ANY OF OUR AUCTIONS! Again, we are not movie memorabilia experts, only Our Customers Are Always Right experts. Have Fun Bidding! Have fun bidding. No Reserve!
