Description
From the publication entitled "Beauties of the Opera and Ballet", published in London in 1845, under the superintendence of Mr.Charles Heath, and rebound with a leather spine and bright gilt lettering, this volume is unique in that the sections on ballet were removed from the full volume and beautifully rebound as a volume on their own.  The four sections include Carlotta Grisi, in the ballet Giselle, Marie Taglioni in La Sylphide, Fanny Cerrito in Ondine and Fanny Elssler in The Devil on Two Sticks, in which she danced her famous Cachucha.  Accompanying the portraits are many illustrations of the actual ballets and details of their stories.  This special volume also has the Petrouchka-themed bookplate of the well-known London collector and dealer Cecil Hopkinson.  Though there is some foxing at the top of the first section, which is Giselle, that continues through the preface and a few more pages and then disappears, as well as a small bit of foxing at the top later in the book, this rare volume is otherwise in excellent condition.   Shipping quoted will include insurance and in the United States is via Priority Mail.  If we have overestimated the amount we will refund the difference, and if we have underestimated it, we will absorb the cost.  Please feel free to write with any question you may have.
